What with the Lottery
Lottery has been defined by Wikipedia as a form of legal gambling. But what exactly has lottery given us with its money?
The first records of a lottery are from the Han Dynasty in China in 205BC to 187BC. The proceeds collected from the people have reportedly helped build the Great Wall of China! Apparently they don’t need to repay the people back like in Bonds… It’s a definite win for the Emperor to save his treasury!
In the 15th or 16th century, the Roman Empire caught the wind of the lottery. Lotteries were a dinner time fun activity. During Augustus Caesar’s reign, the earnings from the lottery were used to repair Rome and the unfortunate lottery winners were given less than equal things as gifts!
That’s that of the lottery. Today some governments have their own lottery centres and of course they reek of money. Aren’t we all interested to win even though the chances seem bleak?
